Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesforsten

Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesforsten (SHLF) (Schleswig-Holstein state forests) manage 50,000 acres of the 173,412 hectare forest area in Schleswig-Holstein. Although Schleswig-Holstein is the least forested federal state, it ranks second on the list of the most deciduous federal states in Germany.

With the establishment of Forsten as an institution under public law (AöR) on January 1, 2008, the once traditional forest management changed into a future-oriented and high-performance company. The compagny is dedicated to the preservation and increase of biodiversity as well as water, climate and noise reduction protection and preservation committed to the recreational functions of Schleswig-Holstein's forests and their sustainable use. The SHLF manage the forests entrusted to them as an FSC® (C010535) and PEFC-certified company sustainably and close to nature according to strict ecological and social standards.

The head office in Neumünster forms the interface and the coordination point of the business fields wood and services, hunting and ungulate, public welfare as well as biological and technical production. From here the SHLF draw their circles. 32 foresters act as local contacts. The forests also include the Trappenkamp Adventure Forest (German) and the youth forest homes in Süderlügum (German) and Hartenholm (German).
